Grants to Support Knowledge Exchange - Stuart Munro

Stuart Munro, 2025 Grant to Support Knowledge Exchange recipient, shares his experience.

This past summer, I spent 37 days within Greenland creating a geological map and collecting samples for my dissertation. During this expedition, I wild camped alongside three other students in a remote mountain plateau surrounded by fjords and glaciers. Every day, I woke up to see the ice sheet almost completely surrounding the horizon. This alone is something I’ll never forget.

My project, studying enrichment of REEs within xenolith associated pegmatites, taught me a huge amount about geological mapping and sampling lithologies within igneous systems. While I was there, I took a hiatus from my project to assist with a modern exploration campaign and an associated PhD project. These experiences were invaluable as I conducted radiometric surveying, targeted sampling, drone surveying, and helicopter-based exploration. The industry experience and contacts gained through my work in Greenland provide an incredible foundation to my future career in exploration geology.
