IOM3 Fellow awarded prestigious Beilby Medal and Prize 2026
Dr Han Zhang CEng CSci FIMMM has been announced as the winner of the 2026 Beilby Medal. Please join us in congratulating him.
The Beilby Medal and Prize is jointly awarded and administered in rotation by SCI and IOM3, with this year's award being administered by SCI. The Beilby Medal recognises a scientist or engineer whose work is of exceptional practical significance in chemical engineering, applied science, energy efficiency or a related field.
This year's awardee, Dr Han Zhang CEng CSci FIMMM is a Reader in Multifunctional Polymers and Composites at WMG, University of Warwick. Since completing his PhD in 2016, Han has made significant contributions to the field of multifunctional polymer composites. With 60+ peer-reviewed papers published, his works are highly recognised by the research community with more than 1700 citations.
Han is also actively involved with the Institute, serving as the Deputy Chair and Secretary of the IOM3 Composites Group Leadership Team. He is also the Associate Editor of the Elsevier journal Composites Part A, and an appointed member of the EPSRC Early Career Forum in Manufacturing and the Circular Economy.
Han is the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Silver Medal in 2022 from IOM3, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the field of composite materials.
Dr Han Zhang will be presented with his award at the Innovations in Polymeric Coatings event on 17 June at SCI HQ in London, where he will also give a talk.
