An introduction to IOM3 activities and resources to support 5 to 19 education

IOM3 is committed to supporting, enthusing and inspiring the next generation of scientists, technologists and engineers.

Our activities are designed to give teachers, parents and learners access to resources that can be used to bring materials, minerals and mining engineering to life. In particular, our resources are related to the school and college science, design and technology, and engineering curricula and can be used enhance and enrich teaching from age 5 upwards.

 

We are delighted to announce that registration for the 2026 Polymer Study Tours is now open.

These free, two-day CPD courses for secondary D&T teachers are hosted by companies from across the UK and have been designed to improve subject knowledge, introduce tried and tested practical activities and provide an insight in to the polymer industry. 

The courses include all refreshments, overnight accommodation and dinner, and all teachers can claim a contribution of up to £250 towards travel or cover costs.

We are delighted to be working with Cornish Lithium on the first Mining Masterclass, a FREE, two-day, residential course for 11-19 teachers. 

The course will improve your subject knowledge, provide ideas for practical teaching, highlight career pathways and give an insight into the industry.

A number of resources were produced for our recent conference for teachers, Materials, Minerals & Mining for the Energy Transition.

IOM3 members and subscribers to our School Affiliate Service, can now access a set of seven posters and accompanying notes for teachers.

 

 

 

2026 Starpack Schools competition is live!

Starpack Schools is a competition for learners aged 11 to17 that has been designed to link to and support the Design & Technology curriculum, encourage young people to consider the important role played by packaging and materials, and promote careers in the packaging industry as exciting, challenging and rewarding.
