Energy Geoscience Career Pathways

A new resource highlighting opportunities in geoscience

The Skills Group of the UK’s Subsurface Task Force has created this info pack for students from A Level/Highers through to Postgraduate stage wishing to understand career possibilities and pathways into energy geoscience.

Illustrated with dozens of career stories and insights from geoscientists working in energy geoscience, it first outlines the sorts of industries which employ geoscientists, then looks at the many roles of geoscience and geoscientists working in the energy sector, the types of employer and jobs, salary and benefits, educational routes and additional available career resources.

The info pack highlights the overlap in geoscience skills and knowledge across various subsurface-related sectors and the way that geoscientists are increasingly working across these sectors to support the energy transition. Finally, it offers guidance to students who may be considering careers in energy geoscience.

Energy geoscience is critical to the energy transition and in our world, jobs and roles are not viewed as either as ‘clean' or ‘dirty’. Capable geoscientists will be needed through the energy transition and beyond to ensure continued, sustainable provision of natural resources, particularly energy and minerals. Make a difference - be an energy geoscientist!
