Grants to Support Knowledge Exchange - Jamie Church

Jamie Church, 2025 Grant to Support Knowledge Exchange recipient, shares his experience.

In August 2025, I had the opportunity to present my research at the 18th biennial meeting of The Society of Geology Applied to Ore Deposits (SGA), in Golden, Colorado, USA. This was made possible in part thanks to the generous award from the IOM3 Grants to Support Knowledge Exchange. This conference brought together around 600 attendees from 40 countries, from both academia and industry.

During my visit, I was able to present my research from the 1st year of my PhD on the geology and mineralisation of the Rare Earth Element (REE), fluorite, and gallium enriched Monte Muambe carbonatite complex, which was well received, and allowed me to go into in-depth discussions about my ongoing research.

In addition, to this, I was able to expand my knowledge and partake in discussions of a variety of different topics, from gold mineralisation to the formation of REE deposits in a variety of geological settings. This opportunity allowed me to build and develop my professional network in both academia and in industry, both within the carbonatite and REE community, and outside of it, which will be critical in my future research and professional career.
