The Government of Zimbabwe has suspended export of these minerals with immediate effect, until further notice.

Zimbabwe's Ministry of Mines and Mining Development tells stakeholders that the ban ‘has been taken in the national interest’ and includes ‘all minerals currently in transit’.

The government says it ‘remains committed to ensuring transparency, in-country value addition and beneficiation, compliance and accountability in the exportation of Zimbabwe’s mineral resources’.

In its statement, the ministry urged the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe and other regulatory authorities to ‘observe the suspension without exception’.

It also sets out mandatory guidelines and associated documentation to export all other minerals.

These stipulate that only mining companies with valid mining titles and approved beneficiation plants will be authorised to export minerals, excluding agents and third-party traders.

The ministry warns that continuation of an expired or exhausted export permit is a serious offence and will result in the withdrawal of export permits and mining titles.
