Family-run clay manufacturer Valentine Clays, based in Stoke-on-Trent, developed the Bistro Porcelain, which it says is 38% stronger than other products it offers.

It can also be repeatedly re-thrown, shows good resistance to thermal shock and delivers a highly responsive throwing experience.

The high level of alumina provides added structure and stability, as well as greater control throughout the forming, drying and firing stages, according to the company.

Bistro Porcelain’s smooth workability and high reusability is said to create less waste, while full vitrification at 1,190°C supports lower firing temperatures than other traditional porcelain clays.
