As part of the sixth round of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC), winners will gain funding to develop clean maritime fuels and technologies in ammonia, hydrogen, methanol, solar and electric.

The investment builds on the £136mln already given to the CMDC, which was split between 142 organisations as part of UK SHORE funding.

UK SHORE is a government programme dedicated to decarbonising maritime for more than 300 organisations, including 250 SMEs. It is also delivering £3.85mln to 13 UK universities that are part of the Clean Maritime Research Hub.

Successful UK SHORE projects include the installation of electric chargepoint networks across ports, including at Aberdeen, the demonstration of an electric crew transfer vessel at Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm, and the demonstration of a green hydrogen shore power system at the port of Leith.
