RecyClass launches certification for plastic-sorting processes

The new framework is said to meet input requirements for food-contact recycled plastics in line with EU regulations.

The Sorting Process Certification is reported to focus on quality assurance and traceability throughout the sorting process, to boost transparency in the quality of recycled plastic materials from input to output.

A key part is Module Alpha, which outlines additional criteria for sorting facilities handling plastic waste intended for potential food-contact recycling.

RecyClass says it will initiate the training process for third-party Certification Bodies to enable the worldwide implementation of the scheme. Sorting operators committed to transparently communicating plastic waste traceability are invited to get certified upon recognition of the first Certification Bodies.

Sorting centres and downstream waste traders involved in preparing waste for plastic recycling processes can apply in early 2026.
