Celebrating Chartered Professionals

Celebrating Chartered Week 2026: here’s what’s happening at IOM3.

Chartered Week 2026 badge

We’re excited to be supporting Chartered Week again this year, in partnership with  The Chartered Institute for IT (BCS) and other awarding bodies.

#CharteredWeek is a celebration of chartered practice and the trusted professionals whose work strengthens public confidence in their sector. Chartered Week celebrations aim to commend registered professionals and their commitment, educate individuals on the role of chartership in setting standards of competence and leadership, and advocate for the value of being chartered.

We’re a licenced professional institution and offer chartership through partnership with awarding bodies: the Engineering Council, the Science Council and the Society for the Environment.

We encourage our members to explore professional registration and chartership, with mentorship, open clinics, webinars and resources that help create a pathway to chartership.

Our Director of Membership Paul Skerry CEng FIMMM says, ‘Professional registration shows your competence and is assessed by your peers. As a chartered professional, you are trusted to make decisions that benefit society and the public, even when facing day to day challenges in your career.’

This year, we’ve brought the three awarding bodies together again to share their insight on the importance of chartership.

Engineering Council CEO Paul Bailey says:

Visit the Engineering Council website.

'As the body responsible for setting and raising standards of competence and conduct for the engineering profession, the Engineering Council is proud to continue its support for Chartered Week. We believe in the importance of celebrating those individuals and organisations who uphold and advance high standards of competence, professionalism and ethical practice standards across society. Professional registration is a public mark of trust and being able to demonstrate a commitment to act ethically, responsibly and in the public interest strengthens confidence in the engineering profession.'

We're also supporting Engineering Council and the Royal Academy of Engineering's joint initiative on Statement of ethical principles for the engineering profession.

Science Council on professional registration:

Visit the Science Council website.

Being professionally registered with the Science Council independently recognises your skills and confirms you meet global standards for professional scientists.

Becoming professionally registered provides independent recognition of your skills and demonstrates that you meet the standards required to join the community of professional scientists.

Registration recognises your knowledge and experience in what you’ve already achieved in your career and how you apply your scientific knowledge.

Employers can see that you have a level of competence as a practising scientist, and in a competitive professional world, it shows your commitment. Being registered demonstrates your commitment to integrity, the public interest, and responsibility to others.

To help you stand out, get registered today and visit the Science Council website for support on your registration journey. We offer free online registration workshops.

Society for the Environment Chief Executive Dr Emma Wilcox CEnv FIMMM on chartership:

Visit the Society for the Environment website.

‘Securing Chartered Environmentalist status is more than a title; it’s a testament to an individual’s expertise, credibility, and commitment to advancing environmental standards. For SocEnv, Chartership represents a guarantee that environmental decisions are made by professionals who are not only highly skilled but also committed to a rigorous code of conduct. In a world grappling with climate and biodiversity crises, achieving Chartered status means joining a community of trusted practitioners who are externally verified and actively shaping a sustainable future. This recognition underscores the importance of environmental professionalism.’

Road to Chartership

To celebrate Chartered Week, we held an online workshop on the pathways to chartership with our Director of Membership Paul Skerry CEng FIMMM and Chair of the Student & Early Career Group Michael Kenyon MIMMM.

This now available to watch on-demand.

Resources on Chartership

In the latest episode of the IOM3 Investigates podcast series, our Director of Membership Paul Skerry CEng FIMMM speaks with the representatives of the Engineering Council, Science Council, and the Society for the Environment on the importance and value of chartership in a professional career.

Chartered bodies can help rebuild trust in public services

We’re one of the 42 awarding bodies dedicated to promoting professional registration and chartership to strengthen skills, standards and trust across the UK. We signed a joint message to the Government, on the importance of setting standards and promoting ethical practice.

The open letter was led by BCS and is available to read below.
