Carester secures rare-earths for French facility
Brazilian Rare Earths Ltd (BRE) and Carester agree a 10-year heavy rare-earth offtake and to deliver BRE's rare-earth separation plant.
The contract agrees to support up to 150tpa of separated dysprosium and terbium oxide production at French rare-earth refining and process-engineering company's plant Caremag, located in Lacq, France.
The facility is backed by €106mln from the French Government and €110mln from Japanese partners JOGMEC and Iwatani.
Carester expects it to be operational from late-2026 and produce around 600tpa of dysprosium and terbium oxides - around 15% of global production - and 800t of neodymium and praseodymium oxides.
The plant will recycle 2,000t of magnets and refine 5,000t of mining concentrates annually.
Carester will provide engineering, construction and commissioning services for BRE’s planned integrated rare-earth separation plant at the Camaçari Petrochemical Complex in Bahia, Brazil.
