IOM3 basics
The Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IOM3) is a major UK science and engineering institution whose activities promote and develop all aspects of the materials cycle; a technical, business, and occupational model which focuses on the processes and technologies applied to materials, from exploration and extraction, to characterisation, processing, and application, to product recycling, repurposing, and reuse.
IOM3 supports professionals in materials, minerals, mining and associated technical disciplines to become champions of the transition to a low-carbon, resource efficient society. We seek to be the best professional membership body we can be by providing modern, flexible services, quality technical content and value for money. IOM3 is incorporated and governed by its Royal Charter (RC000267) and is a charity registered in England and Wales (269275) and in Scotland (SC0505586).
Our vision
Advancing materials, minerals and mining through innovation and excellence for an inclusive and sustainable future.
Our mission
As the leading professional body representing the global materials, minerals and mining community, we champion excellence and innovation to drive responsible and efficient use of the planet’s resources. Acting as an inclusive and collaborative network, we advance science, engineering and technology across the entire materials cycle. In doing so, we promote sustainable solutions that create real value for our members, educators, researchers, producers, users and society at large.
Our business plan is delivered by the combined efforts of active supporters and volunteers and paid employees, all working through a governance structure. The Executive Board (the board of trustees, chaired by the Immediate Past President) sits at the top of this structure, supported by the Advisory Council (chaired by the President).
