IOM3 announces partnership with EqualEngineers

We’re working with EqualEngineers to help create a more inclusive engineering profession.

At IOM3, we’re committed to creating a profession where everyone feels they belong and can thrive. Supporting equality, diversity and inclusion is central to how we serve our members and the wider materials, minerals and mining community.

We support this work through our valued member networks, which bring together members from under-represented groups in our profession. These include the Ethnic Minorities in Materials, Minerals & Mining Group (EMM3), Ably Different Member Group (ADM3), Student & Early Career Group (IOM3 SEC), Women in Materials, Minerals & Mining Group (WIM3) and IOM3Pride. Together, they help us support members at every stage of their careers and build a more inclusive professional community.

We’re excited to be partnering with EqualEngineers to build on this work and support more inclusive and safe cultures across the engineering community.

We share a commitment to ensuring professionals at every career stage can contribute with confidence, feel they belong and work in environments that prioritise safety and wellbeing. Through this collaboration, we'll champion inclusivity across education, industry practice, leadership development and professional registration.

By combining our sector knowledge and networks, we’ll work together on initiatives that broaden access to opportunities, support under-represented groups and promote inclusive engineering design. We’ll also encourage cross-sector learning and help show collective progress to members, partners and stakeholders across the UK and beyond.

Throughout 2026, we’ll collaborate on events that bring people together to share ideas and experiences, explore how inclusive and safe cultures can be strengthened, and support learning across materials science, minerals processing, mining and related engineering fields. Our collaborative programme will begin with an early event focused on Accessibility in Engineering.

Collette Marriott, Director of Business Support at IOM3, said:
'At IOM3, we’re committed to inclusive and supportive environments for all professionals across materials, minerals, mining and engineering. Our five dedicated member networks are driven by the passion and dedication of our member volunteers who connect and empower individuals at every career stage. This partnership with EqualEngineers builds on that foundation, helping us drive meaningful change and promote safer, more inclusive cultures throughout the sector.'

Dr Mark McBride-Wright MBE, Founder and CEO of EqualEngineers, said:
'We are excited to be partnering with IOM3. Materials and minerals disciplines underpin so much of our modern world, and the people working in these fields deserve environments where they feel valued, respected, and safe. Together, we can help support a culture where inclusion strengthens innovation and empowers individuals across the profession.'

This partnership builds on EqualEngineers’ work with professional institutions to create a more inclusive engineering sector that reflects the diversity of society, strengthens industry capability and supports the long-term sustainability of the profession.
