Presented by Neil Battison & Vince Fowler - HSE Lithium batteries are seen as a panacea with the move to carbon free generation and automotive transportation. But as with all emerging technologies, caution has to be taken in the use, storage, handling and maintenance of Lithium batteries to ensure long service life and the prevention of catastrophic battery failure which can lead to serious fire incidents with the potential loss of property and lives. The paper presented will look at the framework for introducing Lithium batteries in an underground environment as well a more general precautions around the house and home.
