SWMA: The World of Net Zero - a Balancing Act

Add to cal

Online via Zoom

On behalf of the South Wales Materials Association (SWMA), the team at Swansea University will be delivering a webinar around green, low-carbon skills as part of their online courses. Sign up here: swanseauniversity.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_MDWnQG4gR4ObPecG22i-Vw#/registration If you’ve heard of the term Net Zero and have ever wondered to yourself what it’s really about, then this primer on the subject is for you. You’ll be introduced to the concept of Net Zero, and why it’s of interest – particularly from the perspective of the UK. We’ll then delve into the greenhouse effect to outline what’s happening on our planet, going into a specific greenhouse gas that’s leading the charge in climate change. We’ll move onto some of the options that we have to play with – the supporting tools at our disposal – and finish up with some discussion into the world of carbon capture, and notably what that could mean to the UK. Speaker Bio Dr Tom Lewis is a project manager at Swansea University. Tom has spent his career across a number of different project roles, focusing primarily on various aspects of research and development, linking between industry and academia. He is currently leading on the delivery of Net Zero skills training provisions, how we can narrow the knowledge gaps that exist, and is set on doing his part to help local workers capitalise on the green economy.
