Abstract
Meeting the immediate load demand from AI and data centers and electrifying everything (e.g., converting the 2/3 non-electrical energy into electricity) require debottlenecking and capacity expansion in the PowerGrid. The conductors in our PowerGrid are the most critical element for Grid Capacity and Efficiency, yet our industry is still overwhelmingly dependent on century old traditional conductor technology with limiting capacity and relatively poor efficiency.
This lecture will introduce Conductor Technology, including the evolution in conductor technology over the past century, the pros and cons of each major conductor type and the technical rational of its development. Emphasis will be on the state of start in the important area, value propositions of next generation advanced conductors, and pertinent case studies.
