Synopsis: Alex will set the scene of what Gravity is, the theory behind it and how it’s been measured historically and applications before explaining the SMG Vibrating Beam Accelerometer Micro-Electro Mechanical System (MEMS) technology, how it is made and used in the GAIA-FIELD portable gravimeter. The advantages of the technology will be discussed along with case studies before finishing off with some of the ongoing developments and future possible applications made more accessible by the technology.
Speaker Biography: Alex is Business Development Manager for the Gravity division at Silicon Microgravity. He graduated with a BEng in Environmental Engineering, part of the Mining Engineering department of the University of Nottingham, before then going on to complete a Masters in Petroleum Engineering at Heriot-Watt University. His early career took him from Oklahoma and Texas to Alberta and Aberdeen, working in well logging and intervention services before moving into technology development and business growth roles across the energy and renewables sectors. He is an active volunteer and past president of the Mining Institute of Scotland.
