Plutonium Immobilisation
Add to calChase Hotel Corkickle Whitehaven CA28 8AA
Plutonium recovered from spent nuclear fuel now requires a long term disposal route, and UK strategy has shifted toward immobilising all stocks in durable ceramic waste forms for geological disposal. Leading options include zirconolite based ceramics and disposal grade mixed oxides, each with different benefits and challenges in manufacture and performance. This lecture will summarise recent technical advances, policy developments and the work of the new NDA Plutonium Ceramic Academic Hub.
