Materials, Minerals & Mining Matter
We are delighted to be hosting Materials, Minerals & Mining Matter ahead of our flagship event M3P3 at Millennium Point in Birmingham on Monday 10 November. This unique one-day conference is open to groups of year 12 students, and their teacher(s) and limited places are available.
The day will start with a special lecture on the importance of materials, minerals and mining to the world today. This presentation, with close links to post-16 STEM curricula, will highlight how materials science and engineering have helped to improved the technology we rely on everyday, and the vital role that minerals and mining play in providing these materials. Practial sessions, delivered by our event partners, Discover Materials and Minerals Matter, will run before and after lunch and the day will end with a focus on careers
The event content is related to post-16 STEM subjects, particlarly chemistry, physics and D&T and will help to bring some challenging concepts to life.
Who is it for?
This event is for students in year 12 with an interest in STEM subjects who would like to find out more about materials, minerals and mining engineering. Schools are invited to bring a team of 7 students (maximum), accompanied by a member of staff. If you would like to bring a double group or check availability before booking please contact us.
Where is the event taking place?
The conference will be held at Millenium Point in the centre of Birmingham. Further travel instructions will be provided to schools that are allocated a place.

Can you help with our costs?
Through the generous support of the IOM3 Education & Outreach Trust, all schools attending will be able to claim a grant of upto £350 to help with the costs of attending. Details of how to claim this will be handed out to teachers on the day.
