SUMMARY:The Hydrogen Economy
DESCRIPTION:In this webinar, we’ll explore how hydrogen could sit alongside electrification as part of a balanced low-carbon energy system. While batteries and direct electrification will do a lot of the heavy lifting, hydrogen may be critical for the sectors that are hardest to decarbonise – think steel production, heavy industry, shipping, aviation and long-term energy storage when wind and solar output drops. We’ll unpack the different “types” of hydrogen (green, blue, and beyond), look at how electrolysers work and examine what it takes to produce hydrogen at scale without shifting emissions elsewhere. We’ll also explore the infrastructure challenge – pipelines, storage, ports, industrial clusters – and the role hydrogen could play in regional economic development. Finally, we’ll take a realistic look at the barriers like cost, efficiency losses, water demand, grid constraints, safety perceptions and policy uncertainty. As we head towards a net zero carbon future, is hydrogen a silver bullet, a niche solution or something in between? https://swanseauniversity.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Re0zSNklQa-JHe5YTo-Rnw
\n
