SUMMARY:Young Person's Lecture Competion -Manchester Heat 
DESCRIPTION:Congratulations to Thomas Hughes who won the North West & North Wales regional heat and who will represent our region with his lecture 'Materials design for nuclear fusion first wall applications' at the National Final on 3rd May in London at the The Armourers' Hall.<br />Organised by the Manchester Metallurgical Society with support from Manchester Polymer Group, five lectures took place to contest the Manchester heat with prize money for First £200, Second £100 and Runners Up £50 each. The judges were particularly impressed with the quality of all the presenters.<br />The North West and North Wales final also took place between Thomas and Paige MacLeod, the entry from the Materials Society of Cumbria speaking about fire-resistant materials. In a closely contested contest, Thomas also won through and we wish him all the best for the final.<br />\n
