SUMMARY:Drill & Blast Techniques at the Woodsmith Mine Shaft Sinking Project
DESCRIPTION:The Woodsmith Mine Project aims to reach the world’s largest and highest grade Polyhalite resource, which is located approximately 1,600m beneath the seaside town of Whitby in North Yorkshire.\n
 \n
Two deep shafts (-1,600m) and one short shaft (-350m) need to be excavated to reach the mineral, with the deep shafts employing modern Shaft Boring Roadheaders (SBRs) and the shorter shaft employing conventional drill and blast methods.\n
 \n
The presentation will describe the drill and blast process in the MTS Shaft and also the worlds-first blasting carried out in the Service and Production Shafts.\n
 \n
A buffet supper will be served after the lecture, at which everyone will be very welcome.\n
